Our story: The journey begins
Hi, I'm Miss J, the heart behind Getting Places. This isn't just a business for me; it's the culmination of a lifelong passion to truly help people in our wonderful Canberra community. After retiring from the public service, I realised this was my moment to create something meaningful – a companion driving service that’s different, built on care, connection, and genuine support.
From public service to passionate care
For years, I dreamt of a role where I could make a tangible difference in people's lives. That 'aha!' moment came when I transitioned from the public service. I saw a need in Canberra for a driving service that offered more than just transport – a service where every journey is safe, comfortable, and stress-free, with a friendly face and a helping hand. And so, Getting Places was born, driven by a deep commitment to our community. I have lived in Canberra for 50 years so know the place pretty well. I am a mother of 2 adult sons and an adorable 11 years old labrador. I love gardening and craft and am a keen jigsaw puzzler. I also love live music and am very social.

At Getting Places, we believe every journey should be an enjoyable experience, not just a trip from A to B. Unlike a regular taxi, I’m here to engage, listen, and ensure you feel completely at ease. I love hearing people's stories and brightening their day, even for a small part of it. My goal is for you or your loved ones to feel truly cared for, supported, and completely stress-free, making every outing a pleasant adventure.
Experience that truly cares
My background in aged care and as a support worker has been invaluable in shaping the Getting Places experience. For the past 10 months, I’ve managed the holistic care of an elderly gentleman with dementia, learning the importance of patience, empathy, and tailored support. This experience, combined with my friendly nature and fun sense of humour, ensures I look after our clients with genuine warmth and professionalism, advocating for them at appointments and outings.
